Intel has revolutionized today's processor technology, closely followed by their competitor AMD. Today the computer world is far cry from the one which existed 10-15 years back. Intel processors are not only faster in their clock speed but also contain more "cores" (additioanl processors within the core).
A microprocessor is a small IC (Intensive Circuit) which performs simple computation processes.
Intel has also advanced in recent years from a 32-bit processor to 64-bit processor technology, which has also substantially raised overall processing speed, without increasing clock speeds rapidly as was the case in the past.
There have been many advancements in the family of the processors with the emerging technology, and during 2011 the production of new motherboard chips especially on the "Sandy Bridge" motherboards, increased overall computer performance notably, by removing a bottleneck which had been present on the previous motherboards when the CPU wanted to transfer data with the memory (RAM).
